Formula one 2014 season has kicked off with the grand unveiling of the cars for the season and immediately the talk were on about the new noses. Termed as the ‘ Anteater ‘ nose by the technical team themselves, the shapes of the nose of each team has come under severe criticism and funny comments. Here is the general comparison of each teams nose and their similarities with various objects in real life.
Red Bull and their Horn bill nose:
The last year Title and Constructor champions Red Bull launched their car with their technicians voicing concern over the safety with the new low nose. They have indeed adopted a Horn bill nose shaped front and was well received by their fans. Some expressed their relief and termed the car’s look from “Not so bad” to “good”.
The Red bull car looks similar to that of the previous generation with added liveries to it. The Red Bull blue as it is commonly known has more sponsors on them and the three strips running on the sides adds to the beauty of the car. All together a good car with not so bad nose.
Mercedes and their Bottle Opener nose:
Mercedes didn’t experiment much with their car either as they went with their previous generation car structure with few tweaks upfront. The nose of Mercedes isn’t much low but looks like a bottle opener from the front with a small projection up front.
The liveries are pretty similar to that of the 2013 version though the car looks as if it has shed some kilos of weight. Looks much lighter and thinner than the rest of the pack.
Ferrari and their Vaccum Cleaner nose:
The Italian team, Scuderia Ferrari made quite a lot of changes to their car which looks bulkier and bigger. Though upfront, the nose looks like a vaccum cleaner and looks ready to suck up everything in its way. The big open mouthed Ferrari is now a small oval nosed one.
Ferrari livery hasn’t changed a bit. They looks exactly ‘Ferrari Like’ with their trademark “Ferrari red” and their regular sponsors. From the side, its looks great, but from the front, not much.
Lotus and their Fork lift nose:
Lotus who had a different nose last year from the rest of the pack and this time as well they have gone for a double nose with hollow center. It hasn’t gone well with the fans as well as they term it as “fork lift” like.
They haven’t changed their livery and has gone with same black and gold theme. All together one of the unattractive cars.
McLaren and their Platypus nose:
Mclaren has gone for a full over haul and to be honest, not among the good looking cars. Their nose takes an ugly projected dip up front with two wide opening at their side. It’s looks like that of a platypus nose with not much aerodynamic bends in the front.
They have changed their livery as well with change of colour from silver grey to beige silver. They are yet to confirm their sponsors and car looks blank without much sticker works. A few more colors would have made the car look more pleasing.
Force India and their Black Panther:
In my Opinion, Force India is one of the best looking car among the current lot with an attractive livery but the nose played spoil sport later. The black along with the tri colors makes the car look like a black panther in action and the sticker works looks just perfect with few more new sponsors adding up the list. Definitely, the car is best received among the fans with lot of awws! during the release.
Their attractive driver suit also add to their attractiveness as Force india stole the show with the best attractive looks.
Toro Rosso and their crooked nose:
Toro Roso car might look similar to that of the Red Bull but they have a slightly different nose. Their nose comes ahead of their wings and is steeply pointed downwards. One of the perfect example of anteater nose. Fans have also found the nose to be similar to that of Dolphin nose.
The shining blue gold livery with the Red Bull logo looks great with the body. The car looks generally good overall.
Sauber and their long beak nose:
Sauber has given their car a long nose with best aerodynamic vents possible. Their nose with a wide opening below it doesn’t differ much from the sloping nose of others but they have gone with the traditional design and aerodynamics. The deep drak livery isn’t the most attractive of the lot but it suits the car well and the design isn’t bad either.
Marussia’s flat slope nose:
Marussia’s has gone for a simple sloped design in the front and are rather satisfied to go on with similar livery of 2013. The technical glitch has denied them to practice at Jerez and it will be intresting to see who their design looks on track.
William’s anteater nose:
Williams were the first to reveal their cars for 2014 season and they adopted the anteater nose or the dropped nose concept. The plain blue livery with a flat and very slim front makes the car look like a mini version of the A1 GP cars. The projected front nose with blunt end makes it look even more uglier with some comparing them with “unmentionables”.
Caterham and their alegator nose:
Caterham front is one of the ugliest among the all the cars in F1 2014 season. The nose dives of a separate holding from the front as a step blunt pointed nose. It got huge response from twitterites and many termed it ‘Ugly’. The nose resembles that of alligator with a blunt end.
But the general livery with green theme looks ok. It’s the nose that people can’t accept.
